Introduction
Taboon is a modern cafe basing its cuisine around the traditional stone oven of the Middle East and drawing its recipes from a variety of countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Morocco, and Turkey to name a few. The Taboon oven itself is the centre-piece of the cafes open plan design and is used to bake fresh pita breads and pastries daily, grill marinated skewered meats and roast fish and vegetables. Taboon is famous for its home-made dips, creative salads, interesting sandwiches, Middle Eastern pizzas and great coffee. At Taboon, authentic food reflecting the flavours of the Middle East is served cafe-style. The atmosphere is typical of the informal eating houses of that exotic region. From the familiar flavours of such favourites as hummus or Persian eggplant dip to the more exotic Tunisian Carrot Dip or Moroccan Tagines, let your tastebuds travel to a strange and foreign land. Everything is cooked on the premises following recipes passed down through the generations. This includes our iconic pita bread, baked in the traditional stone oven that gives our cafe its name - the Taboon.
With either a light lunch of a creative healthy salad or a more extensive dinner, remember to try the exotic beverages traditional to the Middle East region such as Moroccan Mint Tea or Sahlab. In addition, the perfect way to end the meal is with one of the sublime desserts such as the creamy Mallabi or Ice cream with Halva.
While some of the names of the dishes may seem exotic at first, ask the helpful staff for an explanation and then embark on the fresh and delightful flavours of the Middle East.
Taboon has a uniquely Australian way of bringing Middle Eastern food to the modern café environment. Our cuisine is based on traditional recipes from countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Morocco, and Turkey. These recipes, many of which are passed down from mothers and grandmothers, are re-invented by using quality local ingredients and presented in a modern style. The result is a cuisine in which the exotic spices and warm flavours of this region simply shine through.
We invite you to be seduced by silky hummus, oven-fresh breads, original pizzas and salads, spiced grills, slow-cooked tagines, scented desserts and drinks.
