Caffe Giovanni was established in 1961 by Giovanni Schipani. Over the past 50 years the restaurant has been a time-tested success. In the beginning years Giovanni's mother Savaria was in the kitchen lovingly preparing delicious southern Italian recipes for the 190 capacity bustling restaurant. This classic Italian restaurant is a popular and nostalgic destination among countless Bay Area residents many of who feel part of the family themselves.

In 1987 Giovanni sold the business to his employees who had continued success for many years with the formula that Giovanni created and put their own unique stamp on the business. Although the customer loyalty remained strong, the business declined and fell victim to the Great Recession in early 2010.

The new management team of Giovanni Schipani, his wife, and two daughters are committed to bringing back the passion and high standards that long-time patrons will remember.
