Introduction
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a common visual impairment resulting from an abnormal curvature of the eye’s frontal surface or the cornea. People with astigmatism have difficulty focusing, as the light rays the cornea receives cannot stay in one spot, causing distorted and blurry vision and when looking at distances.
At eyecare kids we have technology designed to detect this kind of corneal irregularity, which is called “Astigmatism Fanâ€. This is done by presenting a Black Radial lines in half circle placed behind a white background, and view by the patient one eye at a time. Astigmatism is likely present in a person’s eye if he/she views a gray colour out of the Black Radial lines presented.
Treatment
The treatment for Astigmatism depends mainly on the degree of the condition, thus not all need treatment. An astigmatism correction is given only if the patient has blurry vision and experiences signs of eye fatigue, eyestrain and headache. The usual resorts for astigmatism problem are eye spectacles, contacts, or refractive surgery for a more severe degree of Astigmatism.
