This inn known by the name and sign of the George and Dragon was built in the 24th year of the 1st reign of Henry VI in 1446. It was at it’s day of foundation and for many years to follow a dwelling house owned then by the estate of one Peter Taychell who possessed the mortgages on properties and lands in Sandwich Ash and Wingham. In 1552 there resided one Thomas Webb sailmaker who took advantage of the newly formed Licensing Registration act of 1549.
