Introduction
We run a small guest house with a licensed restaurant in the countryside outside Caernarfon. Although small, the place is full of character, and has had very good reviews in different guide books and major journals and newspapers, and has won quite a few prices. It receives five stars from Visit Wales. It is very Welsh (the owners speak Welsh as their first language, and all publicity material is either in Welsh or bilingual). Everything inside the house has the owners' fingerprints on it - from the Welsh granite walls to the slate floors and books, art and music which is to be seen eveywhere. It is far from being a boutique hotel, and there is no sign of the ubiquitous 'interior design' which makes so many luxurious places so uniform although comfortable. The owners are dedicated to green policies, and Y Goeden Eirin won a Cesar Award from The Good Hotel Guide in 2008 as 'Green Guest House of the Year' throughout Britain, and is included in Alastair Sawday's Green Europe. The unwritten motto is 'Small is Beautiful' and the sense of place is of primary importance. Food is freshly cooked on the Aga from mainly local, organioc or vegetables, fruits and herbs from the kitchen garden.
