Introduction
The Table in Southwark is one of the hidden gems of the South Bank. Shaun Alpine-Crabtree, who with the architectural practice Allies & Morrison, founded the restaurant seven years ago and has recently overseen its evolution.
New head chef Cinzia Ghighoni, ex of Duck Soup, Angela Hartnett and Zucca, brings an impressive pedigree and a fresh take on modern Italian cuisine. She has created a brand new and exciting menu which continues the restaurant’s commitment to impeccable sourcing and quality British ingredients.
A groundbreaking collaboration with homeless charity St Mungo’s now sees The Table take herbs and vegetables on a daily basis, providing both revenue for the charity and an ongoing confidence boost for the workers in the allotments. A two star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association is proof of Shaun’s commitment to sustainable and ethical sourcing.
Their weekend brunch is both award winning and a local favourite, while Saturday evening sees live jazz sessions.
Whether you’re a returning friend or a new customer, Shaun looks forward to welcoming you to The Table. You can contact him at: eat@thetablecafe.com

Shaun Alpine-Crabtree
Manager / Co-owner
Shaun, whose late grandmother told him, one sunny day in Cape Town, at the tender age of 10, that he was destined to be a chef, started out almost 20 years ago as a commis at London’s L’Odeon, under the esteemed Bruno Loubet and his then-sous chef Anthony Demitri. His career in food has since seen him work closely with such foodie luminaries as David Thompson, and taken him to kitchens spanning the world, from Sydney to Moscow. Back in London, he took on the role of head chef at The Wallace Collection, uber-elegant home to one of Europe’s finest collections of works of art, followed by a successful stint as head chef of Villandry, where he developed a taste for fine patisserie. When, in 2007, the opportunity arose to run The Table, Shaun jumped at it.
