Introduction
Originally named ‘The Pompadour Restaurant’, this elegant Edinburgh eatery first opened in 1925 in the heyday of steam railway travel, catering to the country’s rich and famous, for whom Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh was Scotland’s hotel of choice.
It takes its name from the celebrated Madame de Pompadour, the favourite mistress of King Louis XV of France, at whose behest Madame de Pompadour was installed in the magnificent Palace at Versailles.
The Pompadour’s extravagant, listed interior décor reflects the sumptuousness of the royal court of the day, and the restaurant has long enjoyed the reputation of having the best table in Edinburgh, with impressive views overlooking Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle through the panoramic arched windows.
The hospitable, professional, and knowledgeable team at The Pompadour by Galvin welcomes guests and attends to their needs, making the dining experience an enjoyable and memorable one.
