Introduction
The Museum Inn is a superb 17th Century pub with rooms situated in the delightful village of Farnham, Dorset, on the glorious Cranborne Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a renowned countryside pursuit’s destination. By many, the Museum Inn is recognised as one of the finest inns in England.
Extended in the 1880s by the father of modern archaeology, General Augustus Lane Fox Pitt Rivers, to offer accommodation and refreshments for his nearby museum (the museum – the Pitt Rivers – is now in Oxford). The Museum Inn continues to deliver on its promise of first class food, drink and accommodation.
During 2012, the Museum Inn has been sympathetically renovated and now has a fabulously warm and welcoming interior. The 17th-century bar continues with a period feel, flagstone floors, antiques, and a fashionable mismatch of tables and chairs. There are cosy alcoves to hide in, leather banquette seating and of course roaring log fires. There are eight beautifully appointed double bedrooms, (four in the main house and four in the converted stable block) a relaxing resident’s sitting room with honesty bar, and The Shed (a smart but family friendly dining room). Most excitingly, we are delighted to announce the arrival of Moles Cottage, an entirely self contained holiday cottage (with a further eight double bedrooms) and also available in the winter season as a Shooting Lodge.
The Museum Inn has a well established reputation for serving irresistible food and drink. Food that you really look forward to eating knowing that it is fresh, seasonal and better still, sensibly priced! We offer a great range of pub classics and finer dining dishes as well as a children’s menu made from the same great quality ingredients as in our other dishes.
