Introduction
At The Angel, we are not just a real ale pub but an outstanding Northern Quarter restaurant in our own right. Our chef, Dan kelly, has over 15 years' experience of cooking professionally across England, and trained under Raymond Blanc for a short time, and worked at some of London's best which include Scots of Mayfair and nico's. His love of modern British cuisine & produce is showed in his food. His stand-out dishes are corn fed duck breast, served with vanilla red cabbage, and wild boar two ways, which include the loin & homemade sausage. Known for our fresh bread, baked here on the premises by chef every day.
Of course, we wouldn't be a Northern Quarter restaurant if we didn't serve a wide variety of sandwiches, lunches and light bites, so if you aren't looking for the haute cuisine experience we still have plenty to offer why not try, steak & ale pie, wild boar burger, or Scottish haddock & chips, plus our home made chips which are cooked in duck fat.
It would be an understatement to say we were delighted to receive CAMRA's North Manchester Real Ale Pub of the Year Award in 2010! It showed us that our hard work sourcing the best real ales around had been recognised by the very organisation which has done more than anyone to popularise real ale in the UK. Indeed they went so far as to describe the Angel as being like 'an old friend, reinvigorated and in safe-hands' - the pub had actually been empty for two years before our tenure began in 2008 so to reach that milestone within two years was a very proud moment!
So, what are our credentials that make us a proper Manchester real ale pub? We have two pumps for cider and perry, and up to eight pumps for our regular and guest ales. We have one perennially-featured real ale, 'White Lion' from Bob's Brewing Company (Bob's has received awards for best beer at several beer festivals), and we try to ensure that our guest ales are regularly refreshed to provide variety as well as quality.
There's no doubt we take our status as a Manchester real ale pub seriously. It goes without saying that many of our customers take their real ale seriously too. As for you, if you just want to get to know more about it or if you are a devotee yourself, you can rest assured that you can satisfy your taste buds at the Angel, CAMRA's North Manchester Real Ale Pub of the Year for 2010.
