Introduction
Thatcham Research is the motor insurers' automotive research centre. Established in 1969, it aims to reduce the cost of motor insurance claims without compromising safety standards.
From its humble beginnings, it now has over 180 people working to meet its aim and is located in Thatcham, on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire where the company began over forty years ago. Thatcham Research is the only "not for profit" insurer funded research center in the UK.
Thatcham has invested in a range of facility upgrades in recent years and now boasts a fully equipped, ultra-modern Research Technology Centre, alongside a Euro NCAP accredited Crash Laboratory as well as both an adult and dedicated apprentice Academy.
Thatcham Research is primarily funded by its member insurers who represent the majority of major motor insurers in the UK. The company makes an estimated £15 million annual turnover supplemented by a wide range of products and services catering primarily to the vehicle repair industry. Through its unique ‘escribe’ product, Thatcham provide fully researched crash repair methods as well as a constantly updated training programme to enable the vehicle repair industry to stay up to date with trends and latest technology.
Thatcham also have an international office in Thailand that provides services in the Asia region.
As a testament to its growing influence, Thatcham Research constantly receives and accepts invitations to a variety of events, conferences and industry forums where their experts are invited to share their knowledge. As a result the centre has earned its reputation as the "Experts in Safety, Security and Crash Repair.
