Terry's Cafe

Terry came from a modest family of cooks, his dad a chef in the army and his mum was a good pastry cook, so naturally grew up around cooking.

He was raised in south London around the bomb sites and grew up going to hop farms around Kent for his summer holidays. Prior to that he was evacuated to Folkstone were he went to live with an army major and his wife.

He later reunited with the major on a trip down memory lane. This culminated into owning a couple of pigs which soon turned into a smallholding and a couple of thousand pigs. At the age of 17, Terry got a job in Smithfield meat market and learnt his trade in all aspects of butchery. After a long period of time in the market and with many changes Terry decided to leave the place he spent his time and spend some valuable time with his young family.

In 1982 Terry opened what is now known as Terry's Cafe using his knowledge of cooking and butchering skills was able to produce some wonderful home cooked food using meat out of Smithfield and fresh produce from borough market.



Sadly Terry is no longer with us but as an ambassador for local shops and community spirit Terry has passed on his values and experience to his son Austin who has worked there since he was a young boy. Now a man, Austin plans to move forward with his dads winning formula and continue to promote the brand Terry's Cafe.
