Introduction
If you are familiar with Merrick, you'll know that not unlike every other town on Long Island, there are a plethora of Japanese and sushi restaurants. Having recently opened their doors to the raw-seafood consuming public, Merrick Sushi & Tea is filling a niche that not many other restaurants are able to.
We were on our way to the movies that night that we visited. Not far from the movie theater and within walking distance we noticed a tiny sushi restaurant that seemed to be pretty full in comparison to the other restaurants around. When we entered there we took in the narrow establishment where there were approximately 6-8 tables. They were all full. We decided that rather than waiting for our turn at one of the tables we would sit at the sushi bar and get to know the staff a little better.
I've heard about this restaurant for the past few months from various sources. It appears that many others have to, as the waitstaff and the hostess seemed to know everyone's names, usual orders as well as little details about their lives for conversation purposes. This is a positive sign and one that we were confident in our choice. As the name would lead you to believe, tea is offered as soon as you sit down. I'd expect with "tea" in the name of the restaurant there would be more choices than the green tea sitting on our table, but I'll never turn something for free down.
