Introduction
Sandinista! opened in the autumn of 2002 inspired by a love of music, food and drink and Central American culture. Adopting the maxim 'nuestra casa es tu casa - our home is your home' ' the idea was to create a bar for 'everyone' in the city's northern quarter.
The bar has a revolutionary theme with its name inspired by the political movement in Nicaragua and the subsequent eclectic album by The Clash of the same name. The Central American influence is carried throughout the Latin inspired food and drink menu as well as the décor. The bar is laid out as an endearingly rustic split level haven of colour washed walls, wooden panelling and hand-painted revolutionary iconography.
Sandinista! is a bar in the true cantina style, food is served all day until late. You can choose from an extensive range of tapas, bocadillos (sandwiches), platters and weekly specials, with every dish freshly prepared using the finest locally sourced ingredients. Almost half of the tapas menu is Gluten-free and there is a good range of vegetarian options. You will find the perfect accompaniment to whatever takes your fancy from the recently re-vamped wine list. In addition we serve an excellent range of cocktails, an impressive array of rums and other spirits and a fine selection of draught and speciality bottled beers.
Sandinista! offers the perfect place to meet whatever the time of day. Daytimes are relaxed and cosy with complimentary newspapers, magazines and board games. From Spring until Autumn, northern weather dependent, you can take to the streets with outside seating from which to enjoy Sandinista's 'buena vista'. In the evening and especially at the weekend, the bar has a real party atmosphere. Resident DJs play every Thursday, Friday and Saturday whilst Wednesdays and Sundays feature live music every week from the finest up and coming artists from Leeds and beyond.
