Introduction
Radiation Protection Advice and Services provides an RPA consultancy service for employers who use ionising radiation in the workplace. The basic elements of the services are as follows:-
• Assist prospective radiation employers in the drawing up of health and safety documents. Advise them on the legal aspects for the use of radiation sources and equipment at work.
• Provide RPA advice and other services to existing radiation employers using radiation sources and radiation equipment.
• Carry out statutory leak tests of sealed radiation sources/provide test certificates.
• Arrange the calibration of radiation monitors.
• Carry out radiation surveys of equipment containing sealed radiation sources or x-ray devices.
• Assist the employer (user) to ensure that critical examinations of new equipment containing radiation sources or x-ray devices are carried out before first use.
• Assist the radiation employer with the drafting of risk assessments and local rules.
• Advise the employer on their obligations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2011.
