Introduction
Porcelain was started by Jenny Teng, Co-Founder and Director Aesthetician of Porcelain as a small and humble business (previously known as J Phline) providing facial services to customers out of a rented bomb shelter at the foot of a Housing Board block in Jurong back in the 1990s.
Known for her deep-cleansing treatments and extraction skills, she soon earned a following through word-of-mouth but struggled for years to sustain her business after being badly affected by the Asian financial crisis and SARS outbreak. The business took a turn when her daughter, Pauline Ng, now the Founder and Managing Director of Porcelain decided to help her mother in her business.
For Pauline, it started only as a pet project to help her mother but one day, Jenny’s long-time customer shared with Pauline that she used to look really ugly but Jenny made her beautiful. That was the moment that Pauline became convinced about building Porcelain as a brand name and hence decided to rebrand J Phline to Porcelain, The Face Spa in 2009.
