Introduction
The staff at Pier 1 are clad in smart uniforms and are extremely attentive. The setting is fabulously stylish, with a neutral, modern interior, gleaming mirrors, an enormous glass front, and simple wooden tables and chairs. The restaurant appeals to everyone, from fashionable young things to families, people have fallen hook, line and sinker for its charms.
The menu defines Pier 1 as a restaurant rather than your average fish and chip shop, with ten starters (including the likes of classic prawn cocktail or succulent diver scallops), over 23 mains, and a variety of desserts ' a timeless classic such as the sticky toffee pudding is the perfect way to finish. However, it is the British fish and chips that are the focus, with old favourites such as plaice, cod and haddock available amongst more unique options such as Dover sole and halibut.
Prices start at a reasonable £9.95, or £6.95 from the takeaway menu. Once you have selected your fish, choose how you want it cooked, whether it's traditionally and delicately fried to golden perfection, or if you prefer something a little lighter, like simply grilled. All are served in the classic fashion with delicious homemade chips or potatoes, classic mushy peas and tartare sauce, plus there is a range of wines available to complement your choice. The fish is all fresh and where possible line caught and responsibly fished for sustainability and prepared by experienced fishmongers, before being cooked using pure ground nut oil and Pier 1's own unique batter, giving it a succulence that's a million miles away from anything you'd find in your local chippie.
Pier 1 is the newest and best fish and chip experience in town, offering the finest tastes of the sea amidst the bustle of the tourist heart of storybook London.
