Originality by Jane Marsh

I make pictures using batik which is a process using wax as a resist and cold water dyes to create my colourful and upbeat pieces. Silk is my fabric of choice, its light reflecting qualities suit my work. The silk is then attached to a streched canvass for a very contemporary look.
I also make accessories such as brooches, scarves and handbags, each made as a one off.
My studio with a small gallery is in York and I have regular open days for the public to have a chance to purchase work. The gallery is open anytime by appointment and on Saturday mornings from 10am - 1pm March to December. I also attend outside events which are posted on my website.
My focus is on producing a well made lasting and original high quality product made from locally sourced materials where possible and I am dedicated to the idea that something useful can still be called art and worn or used every day.
