Introduction
NYC GoGreen Tours, New York City’s first and only carbon neutral ‘green’ tour company has launched its innovative program of walking tours, pedicab and horse carriage tours, bike tours and bike rentals throughout New York City. While offering a program of tours to ‘See New York like a New Yorker’, the company will simultaneously initiate a broad effort to promote New York City as the greenest city in America, based on the city’s per capita carbon footprint and popular use of mass transit, walking and bicycles. With these activities, New York’s residents have for decades led the country as the healthiest city in the U.S. with the longest per capita lifespan and good exercise habits.
The combination of surging tourism and growing fascination with New York’s brand as a cultural, economic and general urban leader with a rich, diverse history has opened the way for carbon neutral tourism, a theme which is both forward thinking and exciting. This is represented by three major principles of green lifestyle: live smaller, live closer and drive less, all of which New York City residents and visitors practice in their everyday urban life.
With 8.5 million residence and another 4-5 million visitors and commuters each day, New York’s population is by far the greatest of any region or city in the country at any given time.
Last year 50.2 million visitors came to New York, spending $31 billion and moving tourism to the fifth biggest industry in the city. In addition to the 1900 parks in New York’s five boroughs, the green brand of New York City is represented by many concepts, both environmental (578-mile waterfront plan), architectural (the Bank of America tower is the ‘greenest’ building in the world), health and wellness (New Yorkers walk, run and bicycle in very large numbers) and other historic and contemporary ways.
These concepts will add interest to the carbon neutral tours and tie in the New York brand of green planning, leading the global green urban movement and creating a carbon neutral future through innovative ideas and initiatives. NYC GoGreen Tours has a mission to envelope that theme around its neighborhood and regional tours, from Harlem to the Financial District, Greenwich Village to Riverside Park, covering many of New York’s 450 neighborhoods plus Central Park.
