Introduction
Mulberry is a wine bar and New American style restaurant in the heart of downtown Austin. It's received praise from numerous highly regarded publications for it's unique cozy atmosphere, carefully prepared cuisine and a devotedly selected wine list.
The small and warm interior features a glass faced mezzanine displaying wine bottles, a deep Calcutta Gold marble bar, a charcuterie window into kitchen and rich oak panels. Diners populate the bar through the evening and the space hosts neighborhood wine and beer lovers until late.
Mulberry is open for dinner nightly and brunch on the weekend. The bar features over 150 carefully selected wines, bubbly and draught beers.
The menu includes a range of course sizes along with classic cheeses and meats artfully plated to order. Among Mulberry plate offerings are meatballs in a white wine & lemon broth and a hamburger with Pancetta, Gruyere, tomato and an egg. There are also several composed plates including a pork chop with sauteed red chard with bacon, braised bulb onion, and peach chutney, and an akaushi beef teres major with fingerling potatoes, summer squash and walnut sauce.
Executive Chef, and native Texan, Jacob Weaver, directs Mulberry's kitchen with a menu that features innovative cuisine in a manner that complements the local style of the neighborhood. Michael recently sent Jacob to New York City for several weeks so he could cook at Gramercy Tavern and to Brooklyn to cook at Diner, Marlow & Sons and Marlow & Daughters.
Mulberry features a wide and diverse selection of reds and whites by the glass with a list of several dessert wines and sparkling also by the glass. Beyond the by the glass list there are over 150 options to choose from by the bottle.
The wine list focuses on world representation of top wine producing regions. Many carefully choosen selections are proudly served and sure to meet everyone's preference and price point while always exceeding our guest's expectations.
Mulberry always provides a cozy yet upbeat and casual spot to enjoy your favorite wines.
Mulberry's draught beers are a prided component of our offerings. The beer selections include a white wheat beer and a tap devoted to seasonal favorites. A traditional German pilsner produced by Bitburger is also on tap along with the local Texas favorite Firemans #4 Blonde Ale.
Our white wheat beer will pair well with our cod filet with asparagus, buerre blanc and crispy potato or other seasonal fish dishes. Excellent pairings with our Bitburger Pilsner are the house made meatballs with white wine and lemon broth or the shrimp and artichoke crostini with tomato and lemon.
Mulberry was originally conceived by friends from Texas and New York who loved Austin and hoped local residents would respond to a cozy neighborhood spot with a European style. Long-time Austinites may recognize Mulberry Street as the former name of 10th Street in downtown and, coincidentally, several of the New York founders lived on the renowned Mulberry Street in Manhattan. The name Mulberry reflects influences and inspiration drawn from both Austin and New York.
The overall concept for Mulberry was developed by local entrepreneur Michael Polombo and partner Lawrence Bondulich, who created the critically acclaimed New York City wine bar and restaurants, Bin 71 and Barcibo. Michael Hsu and Kristen Heaney, from Michael Hsu Design Office, added numerous design touches elevating the concept to its current rustic-chic style. Early on in the project, Michael Hsu was hosted in New York for introductions to the founders' restaurants and to benefit the design process.
