More than Décor

My name is Jessica White, and I am the owner and founder of More than Décor. The year 2020 has been something to write home about, so naturally I was determined to make the best of it. This year we welcomed our second child in April of 2020, off to a good start, right? Well our home became a little smaller as each new baby gadget entered our what “used to be” living room. That was when the search for our new home began. It started with some internet browsing, then moved on to a couple viewings, and then rejected offer after rejected offer. We were beginning to get our hopes up and the stress was weighing down upon us. I knew that when we finally got an accepted offer, we were going to need to sell our house fast.

This was my home and I loved it and all the memories that came with it but, after my 3 years of studying at Conestoga College in Visual Merchandising and Interior Decorating topped off with 5 years of sales experience, I knew no one was going to appreciate my choice to paint the Fortnite llama in the children’s space during lock down, my family photos, maze of baby toys, or pile of laundry as much as I did. I put on my contractors’ hat and headed to the hardware store where I carefully selected the perfect neutral paint colours and modern hardware to amplify the charm of my first home. I actually teared up as I packed up the family photos and my child’s works of art attached to the fridge. I decluttered, I mean really decluttered, I filled an entire storage locker with stuff that meant nothing to anyone beyond our family. Then the fun part came. I went to a home décor store and bought all the things I could only dream about but never dared to put in my house until the kids were in college.
