Introduction
The Mattie R. Johnson foundation represents an extension of the core values of my great-grandmother, Gradie: dignity, safety, and compassion. Gradie led by example, housing countless friends and family in need of shelter, food, clothing, or guidance. She epitomized unconditional love.
As a survivor of mental, physical, and verbal abuse, financial instability and the challenge to find adequate resources were significant road blocks to my recovery. My survival, recovery, and ability to achieve personal and professional success would have been unlikely without the core values of my great-grandmother and others who uphold these ideals.
