We are one of the pioneers of Turkey Social Dance Scene. Mundo Latino Dance is the very first Dance Company who has introduced Salsa and other social Latin Dances to Turkish public in 1999.
Mundo Latino Dance & Promotions was founded in 1999 in Istanbul, Turkey when the Salsa beat was a mere echo from the shores of Latin America. It was established by Yonca Gulgec & Mehmet Ceyhan as both a business and a love for the energy of the music & dance. Today both Yonca & Mehmet share an international reputation for their contribution to the latin dance scene & have between them shared many coveted awards.
Yonca Gulgec was inspired ... she was inspired by music ... she was inspired by the dance ... she dropped a successful 20 year career in the textile industry ... to share that inspiration. It was this inspiration that brought Salsa to Turkey; Yonca brought the best Latino's from those shores of Latin America to perform in Turkey ... with the music ... with the style ... and with the energy. They shared her house ... it shared her life. Today Yonca manages the commercial operation of the Mundo Latino business from their own dance studio in the Beyoglu area of central Istanbul. She teaches, she dances ... she still has the energy. She teaches the styling and has the accute eye for detail that turns a performance into a show.
Yonca holds a UKA Teaching Certificate, is a Turkish Dance Sports Federation Licensed Judge & International Dance Organisation Judge. She is currently a committee member of the Turkish Dance Federation & holds several lifetime achievement awards for her contribution to salsa worldwide.
Mehmet Ceyhan is the business partner with the responsibility for music and choregraphy. Before Mundo Latino, Mehmet was working as a leading club DJ but his inspiration was dance & he quickly demonstrated his style & ability in ameteur stage and show performances. His dance career has progressed through street style, jazz dance, RnB, modern dance & salsa and his talent is an inspiration to dance students in lessons, workshops and shows. Mehmet is a showman ... he inspires with his energy and he motivates with the simplicity with which he turns moves into performances. As a teacher of dance, Mehmet can fast-track from introduction through accomplished; his accuracy and his guidance will extract the maximum energy and performance from any student. Mehmet holds a UKA Teaching Certificate, is a Turkish Dance Sports Federation Licensed Judge & International Dance Organisation Judge.
He is an accomplished musician and his musical ability is highlighted by his scoring & cherography of Mundo Latino's own international show performances and music for radio, video and TV commercials. Mehmet can often be found into the early hours of the morning, headphones on, keyboard and computer ...
In July 2007, Yonca & Mehmet brought Salsa to attention by creating and organising the 1st Turkish Salsa Festival in Istanbul ... number 2 followed in 2008 to great acclaim. Their enterprise has introduced many thousands to dance; salsa has been their energy and inspiration ... it's now shared by many ... the story continues ....
