The Notary authenticates, certifies and verifies facts such as identity, capacity and intention. Documents which often require "notarisation" include foreign powers of attorney (e.g. to buy/sell property abroad or to participate in court proceedings overseas), affidavits, declarations (including in support of OCI applications), consents to travel for minors, proof of life forms (for overseas pension providers or insurers), American authorities, oaths, documents connected to marriage/adoption/birth/death/divorce abroad, certified copies of educational and qualification certificates and documents relating to commercial transactions abroad.
