Lettermullen Heritage Centre

The Lettermullen Heritage Centre is located in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht in the Islands region of Lettermullen. The Heritage Centre was opened in June 2009 and local people as well as visitors from near and far have shown a huge interest in the private collection of John Conneely on display here. It is a very varied collection ranging from a wonderful photographic archive to a publications library to a collection of old tools and instruments used in forging, farming, carpentry and cooking. It is well worth the visit back to us to see the collection for yourself and Huston's Beach is only a stone's throw away from the centre, this is where the film director John Huston owned a holiday home in the late 1950's and early 60's. The Lloyd's Tower on Golam Head is a short scenic walk from the centre. We offer daily guided tours of the centre to interested parties all year long and we are woking at present with the local educational company, Muintearas to promote and preserve the history and culture of the Islands Region. The Centre itself is of important significance to anyone who has ancestors in this region as the collection itself is a real eye opener for many whose ancestors were brought up here and the extensive photographic archive gives a great insight into the people, their lives and their ways of living in times past.
