Introduction
In a 'tacoâ? shell, we want to feed you and we want you to leave happy and satisfied! We aim to serve the freshest ingredients. Our food is made fresh daily and the leftovers are thrown out nightly. We guarantee a fresh product. Our restaurants are in a constant state of growth. Evolving is what keeps us jumping for your attention and it helps aid us in trying new recipes with new ingredients.
Our menu has many of it's original components and combinations, the oldies but goodies are still there. But be sure to look for our newest creations, they appear in table tents, separate menus, entrance boards, and word of mouth. Our chefs and owners are constantly trying to appease your taste buds.
We aim to please! If you want to eat an egg inside your frozen Margarita, who are we to judge. It will be served right up the way you want it. Keeping you happy and serving you with a smile is very important to us. We hope you'll let us know how we can make your dining experience unique and enjoyable.
Like all Mom-and-Pops, we have humble beginnings. Our founders, Manuel and Feliz Veloz, wanted to serve their food to the masses, and 'put food on the tableâ? of their family home. Serving burritos to The Gringos, was new to Midland. Little did they know that their fare would become the absolute staple in West Texas.
In 1957 Feliz Veloz started a small burrito restaurant on the south side of Midland. It's popularity soon outgrew the limited space. With it's close proximity to booming Downtown Midiland they did not want to venture too far from home. They soon reopened naming it Monterrey Cocina Mexicana and it became a very popular family hangout. When their son Jorge Veloz was 19 he took over the restaurant and improved the interior and food. It, once again, outgrew it's small interior and it was time to expand.
In 1981 Jorge custom built a modern, grand building on Big Spring Street in Midland. Complete with separate bar, atrium, waiting area, and fireplace, the new location became the talk of the town. The Veloz's were a popular family oriented establishment and they hired many of their family members to work along side them. It wasn't long before they had to expand to the 'growingâ? side of town. Within 4 years of the Big Spring Street location's opening, Jorge's emerged for the first time on Midland Drive.
The newest expansion located in a new shopping center development across from a brand new Albertson's opened up to a new and vigorously hungry clientele. This began a new relationship with a younger, hipper crowd. Jorge's became busy with new flavors and the popularity grew with each sip of our famous margarita.
It wasn't long before a Jorge's opened in Odessa, Amarillo, East Midland, Austin (by daughter Diana Veloz), and now Dallas(by step-daughter Michelle Mireles). We hope we can continue to open locations across Texas. But only time will tell.
