John Atkinson

John Atkinson is an American painter, living and working in NW Montana in all seasons.
The concepts for John's work come from his life experiences and the environment around him.
He enjoys working in and out of the studio on a variety of subjects.

While primarily working as a visual artist, John also produces a limited number of wooden flutes in the pentatonic, two chamber/removable block style, each year. He enjoys experimenting with designs, different woods, and keys, and focusing on sound quality. He wants to keep the flutes and blocks simple in appearance with pleasing proportions.Some flutes might include art work or other ornamentation.

John approaches the making of a flute as he does the beginning of a new painting: as an adventure, a problem to be worked out, an experiment to be tried, and an attempt to do it better than before. Then if he is happy with the outcome, John will offer it for sale in order to keep working and learning.
