Investment Casting

There are many different kinds of casting processes that can be used to make industrial parts. It can be difficult to choose the right type of casting without understanding the comparative benefits and capabilities. For example, sand casting offers a low cost when high quality parts are not required. It can also be used to produce very large parts – over 250 pounds. Investment casting requires a somewhat higher initial expenditure, though in many cases, the long-term return on investment can be better. Investment casting produces very high quality parts that meet demanding specifications. It can accommodate a wide variety of alloys, complex geometries and thinner wall thickness. It can also produce better surface finishes. A thorough understanding of process capabilities and application requirements are necessary to get the best results.

Aluminum Die Casting is a process of injection of Aluminum or Aluminum Alloys under pressure, which produces parts in high volume at low costs.

There are two processes of Aluminum die casting: hot chamber and cold chamber.

A complete cycle can vary from one second for small components to minutes for a casting of large part, making aluminum die casting the fastest technique available for producing precise aluminum & aluminum alloy parts.

Stainless steel castings differ from carbon steel castings by the amount of chromium present. Unprotected carbon steel rusts readily when exposed to air and moisture. This iron oxide film (the rust) is active and accelerates corrosion by forming more iron oxide; and, because of the greater volume of the iron oxide, this tends to flake and fall away. Stainless steels contain sufficient chromium to form a passive film of chromium oxide, which prevents further surface corrosion by blocking oxygen diffusion to the steel surface and blocks corrosion from spreading into the metal’s internal structure. Due to the similar size of the steel and oxide ions, they bond very strongly and remain attached to the surface. Stainless steel castings are used in many applications where corrosion resistance and also material strength are critical.

Investment casting or "Lost Wax Casting" is one of the oldest known metal-forming techniques. Although the base process dates back more then 5000 years, today’s advances in automated machinery, casting waxes, materials and specialty alloys, have transformed investment casting into a highly efficient and cost effective manufacturing process. Investment casting allows the production of components with tight tolerances, high volume, and versatility in a variety of metals and high-performance alloys.
