Introduction
Welcome to Helico Pro
Located in the Greater Montreal area, one of the world’s largest aviation hubs, Helico Pro is a helicopter operator providing a wide range of services, from VIP transportation to helicopter assistance for infrastructure projects. Helico Pro is also specialized in aircraft restoration, acquisition and sale. We cumulated more than 60 international transactions, most of the
time as a consultant for corporate clients in search of a helicopter fulfilling specific needs. We always have around half a dozen of aircrafts ready to sell and we have a vast international network which allows us to find specific aircrafts on demand. Mainly, our consulting expertise comes from the deep understanding of the aviation industry our chief-instructor and president,
Capt. Christian Assad, has acquired by the years. Mr. Assad has logged nearly 12,000 hours of flying time, most of it flying for the Canadian Air Force and providing VIP transportation services to prime ministers, celebrities and corporate clients.
Helico Pro is not only one of the biggest helicopter operators in the Montreal area, but also a flying school led by highly trained military and civilian instructors. Our operational experience have given us the chance to develop practical knowledge in infrastructure project assistance, firefighting assistance, crop spraying or even medevac operations. Likewise, the military
background of our chief instructor enables Helico Pro to provide advanced tactical training.
These very diverse fields of expertise are what sets us apart from other Canadian helicopter flying schools, which are already considered to be among the best in the world. Helico pro’s team constantly brings into play the experience coming from field operations to enhance the quality of the training our instructors provide. This approach is also why our primary focus is
helping our students to develop the kind of technical skills that will be effectively useful in
their pilot careers.
Helico Pro provides ab initio training for helicopter private (PHL) and commercial (CHL) licenses
as well as diverse advanced trainings. Usually, the rotorcraft used for the ab initio training course is a Hughes-300, while advanced trainings can be done using a Bell-206 or an Augusta-109.
Moreover, Helico Pro recently moved to its new modernized facilities, which allow us to welcome more international students. With brand new classrooms, a bigger maintenance center and a cozy lounge where it is possible to ease off after intense training days, Helico Pro is proud to provide the most learning-friendly environment possible.
Helico Pro’s expertise
The complementary backgrounds of our instructors give us the opportunity to provide many types of training. We know that the instructor will represent the whole of aviation for a student in the early stages of training. He/she will be the person passing on the knowledge, giving tricks, making the best out of this short period of time in a pilot’s career. The instructor
can make a big difference in how the students’ expensive and valuable flight time is maximized. It is why we focus on rigorous methods and personalized approach in order to develop situational awareness of the terrain and aircraft systems knowledge.

Canada’s distinctive advantages
Canada is the second largest country in the world with only 33 million people, which means that we have extremely vast areas that are ready to serve as training fields. Moreover, the cold weather during winter allows us to execute high altitude operations and the unpredictable weather up-north, where are most of the infrastructure projects needing helicopter assistance,
forces our pilots to be extremely skilled at flying in low weather.
Furthermore, the requisites to become an instructor in Canada are among the world’s toughest standards. When you get your commercial license in Canada, you need to have accomplished a total of 250 hours as a pilot-in-command (in addition of 70 hours of dual flying) in order to apply on a course that will last 30 hours with a class 1 instructor.
Regarding these facts, the comparison with our southern neighbours is revealing. After pilots get their commercial licence in the U.S, they only need to do an extra 20 hours of instructor training right away to be rated, compared to the bare minimum of 250 solo flying (in addition of 70 hours of dual flying) required to attend the instructor course in Canada. How do our candidates here get the 250 hours of solo flying before the course? Well, he/she has to get a job as a pilot,
meaning not many will show up to become instructors with the bare minimum because they will be working as pilots already. In the U.S they build hours “teaching†to be able to get a job. That is a big difference.
Without a doubt, the fact that all instructors have to gain professional flying experience before teaching enhances the quality of the training we deliver. In addition, the Canadian CHL includes various components that are not mandatory for the U.S CHL such as slinging operations, instrument flying (IFR) and night flying. Likewise, emergency exercises, confined areas navigation and snow operations are covered in more depth.
Hence, Canada’s distinctive advantages range from the unique training fields its wild territory can offer to the excellence of Canadian helicopter instructors’ qualification. Concerning specifically Helico Pro’s surroundings, Montreal city, which is about 20 minutes away from Helico Pro’s headquarters, is consistently rated as one of the world’s most “livable†cities. Montreal was also called “Canada’s Cultural Capital†by Monocle Magazine and was recently named
a UNESCO City of Design.
