Introduction
The first Hawaiian Drive Inn in the Bay Area was open in early 1997 by Alan and Maggie.
Alan, who came over to the mainland from Honolulu, Hawaii, was feeling home sick and did not find any restaurants that catered to his Hawaiian taste. So, together with Maggie, they opened their first Hawaiian Drive Inn restaurant on Mission St., in San Francisco. Alan was a skilled chef with over 6 years of experience in Hawaii.
In March 1999, they opened their second restaurant in Redwood City and sold the first one. In September 2000, they opened their third restaurant in Daly City and sold the second one.
The San Francisco and Redwood City locations are now owned and independently operated by their new owners.
In 2003, they sold the Daly City restaurant and another one in South San Francisco. These restaurants are now owned and independently operated by their new owners as well.
Today, Alan and Maggie are operating a restaurant in Vallejo and a newly open restaurant in Hayward.
Hawaiian Drive Inn serves authentic island-style lunch plates that include such favorites as BBQ short ribs, BBQ chicken, Teriyaki Steak, Loco Moco, Bento, along with an assorted combos and mixed plates, and mini plates.
The lunch plates include 2 scoop of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad and the mini plates includes 1 scoop of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad.
Their commitment to their customers is to provide uno (delicious) food and plenty of it.
Many patrons have found Hawaiian Drive Inn to be more than a restaurant for great food.
Hawaiian Drive Inn also serves as a hub in which the patrons can feel a little bit of home some 3,000 miles away.
Patrons like to gather and talk about the islands and the Hawaiian life style.
