Introduction
Haven of the Heart Foundation is a non-profit organisation relying on donations to provide hope and a helping hand to abused, abandoned, neglected children, the homeless and destitute living in underprivileged and informal settlements. Things can change in an instant. Have you experienced change in your life suddenly with a single event…?
We have witnessed many children and destitute people who have lost their way and who have no sense of direction or hope. Many have not experienced nor had anyone nurturing or responsible enough to teach, guide or chastise them in love let alone support them financially. Many of these individuals go to bed, “If they are fortunate to have one.†on an empty stomach and awaken each day feeling as though their life has no meaning, direction, love, joy, nor peace… leaving them feeling utterly hopeless with no plans for the future - a totally negative approach to life.
A great deal of these children and adults rummage through waste for their next meal or in the hope of finding things to sell to survive! When one is faced with these truths…one is quick to say SOMEBODY should do SOMETHING about these poor children and the destitute!
The truth of the matter is that when we judge people, we feel less of an obligation to suffer with and for them. When we judge and pigeon hole people, we cease to pay attention to them. We do not look beyond the labels to see the uniqueness of the particular individual.
We are after all…each and every one of us…a person of substance, of flesh and bone, fibre and liquids, and a mind, we were all born for a reason …yet many people remain invisible simply because others refuse to see them for who they really are. By changing ours and their thinking…we not only change our world… but we change the world of those around us.
This is OUR moment…this is YOUR moment…to be that SOMEBODY…TOGETHER… we can either stand by or do nothing…OR…
We can act and do everything in our power to bring HOPE and lend a hand to the lives of these lost souls by providing them with lifelong guidance and education, food, clothing, and medical care.
There is a need, we have an opportunity to act, and that is where I believe we are today! United we can make a difference and provide these children, and the destitute with hope for a brighter future…
Make a special missions donation today! Give from your heart, help change lives through partnership and provide HOPE today!

However, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacles preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE:
Haven of the Heart Foundation’s specific objective is to establish nationwide recreational havens for children. A place where they can gather to eat, learn and play in a safe, secure, naturally peaceful environment along with programs aimed at raising their self-esteem and motivating them mentally, emotionally and physically through recreational activities, economic empowerment programming, training and self-awareness education. We are dedicated to providing emotional support to children and the families of abused children, so that they may heal in an environment where children are able to spend both leisure and structured time with their caregivers in an effort to diminish their stressful circumstances.
HAVEN OF THE HEART FOUNDATION VISION:
To build up families by gearing all management to create parental capacity, healthy parent-child relationships, spiritually minded young people and families with spiritual depth and focus. To have a tightly connected, multigenerational team in which people of a given generation mentor someone of a subsequent generation, allowing individuals of all generations to consistently relate to both younger and older individuals on all matters of faith and lifestyle.
To establish new and to support existing mission havens in South Africa where a need thereof is identified, and to equip it with all the required disciplines and services. Our greatest goal is to do all things in love as we walk on the roads that bring us to needy people, to hurting hearts, to sick bodies, to bound souls, and to lost lives. We walk with tenderness and compassion, and are a servant to all. We believe all humans should be merciful toward one another in love and should strive to live in peace. We endeavour to add to people’s lives FAITH through LOVE. We believe “unconditional†love always protects trusts, gives hope, and perseveres…
“Unconditional love never fails.â€
“We spend our lives trying to earn the love that we can only receive when we admit our poverty of spirit. WHEN WE KNOW OURSELVES to be safe with the true source of LOVE, we can begin to create havens of safety for others.â€
Our aim is to focus on what should be done with regard to raising wounded adult/ children’s self-esteem by motivating them and providing them with the tools necessary to develop their total mental, emotional and physical health and build their future on faith and not fear, for faith is what makes humans unstoppable and turns a VICTIM into a “VICTORâ€.
Our vision is to reach out to young children and to exhaust all means at our disposal to save as many as possible by providing them with lifelong direction. By breaking the pattern of abuse, abandonment, and neglect in this generation, we will ensure a brighter future for the generations, which follow.
We at HAVEN OF THE HEART FOUNDATION choose to live with hope rather than despair, love rather than hatred and forgiveness rather than blame. We believe if one cannot change the circumstances, then change oneself.
“By changing your thoughts, you change your world!â€
CHILD ABUSE
There are numerous types of child abuse i.e. emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, and abandonment. These have an emotional effect on children who necessitate consistency, structure, clear boundaries and the understanding that their primary caregivers are looking out for their safety. Abused children cannot foresee how their parents will act. Their world is a capricious, fearsome place with no normality. Any form of abuse will result in a child feeling insecure, neglected, mistreated, alone, or abandoned.
Children have nothing to be ashamed of…the shame of being human has been passed down through the generations by ignorant children who have grown up into adult parents who have an injured spirit, shattered hearts and a jumbled psyche.
“Shame is noxious and does not belong to children!â€
MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT
MYTH: It is only abuse if it is violent.
Fact: Physical abuse is only one type of abuse. Neglect and emotional abuse are as damaging, since they are more inconspicuous others are less likely to get involved.
MYTH: Most child abusers are strangers.
Fact: While abuse by unfamiliar persons does happen, most abusers are family members or others close to the family
MYTH: Child abuse does not happen in “good†families.
Fact: Child abuse happens across the board immaterial of one’s social or financial status. It crosses all racial, economic, and cultural lines. Many dysfunctional families portray their family unit as being “picture perfect†thus living in denial and not seeking out the help that is required to remedy their situation.
MYTH: Only bad people abuse their children.
Fact: Not only "bad people" abuse their children and not all abusers deliberately cause harm to their children. Many wounded adult children were victims of abuse themselves and have remained ignorant on how best to raise their own offspring. Others may suffer from various mental health issues or of substance abuse.
MYTH: Abused children always grow up to be abusers.
Fact: It is true that abused children are more likely to repeat the cycle as adults, instinctively replicating what they experienced as offspring. Many “wise†adult survivors of child abuse who have chosen not to remain ignorant on the subject matter have a strong motivation to protect their children against what they went through and become excellent parents. All types of child abuse and neglect leave lasting scars. Some of these scars might be physical, but emotional scarring has long lasting effects throughout life, damaging a child’s sense of self, ability to have healthy relationships and ability to function at home, at work and at school.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Deborah spent her time volunteering her services to the under-privileged and handicapped in addition to feeding the destitute and the needy whilst writing material on matters of the heart and family. Deborah was raised in a single parent home. Being highly intuitive and sensitive to the needs of people around her, Deborah was inspired to reach out to those in need and thus founded Haven of the Heart Foundation. She is fully supported by Colleen, and Leon, who share the same heartfelt desires derived from their own life experiences… to provide HOPE and HELP to the poorly who are in need of Love, guidance and a helping hand.
“Peace between countries must rest on the solid foundation of love between individuals. From the loving example of one family a whole country becomes loving.â€
We have come across many troubled people, who were born into this world from parents who had no vision or workable plan for raising their children. Alternatively, they were not equipped emotionally or financially to take on the responsibility of child rearing.
Children deserve to be born into an environment in which love, support, encouragement and cooperation within the family unit is strong. The relationship between a child’s parents is the foundation for their family unit. This regrettably has often not been the case and has sadly impacted negatively on such children, who usually grow up to be unhappy adults, never fully understanding why they feel and act the way they do. Sadly, many wounded adult children go on to producing unhappy children, who inherit the scars left behind from their parent’s pasts, developing a pattern, which is passed down the generations.
We at Haven of the Heart Foundation, have an abiding concern for the many troubled individuals, who are born into this world from parents who remain ignorant, never seeking any form of help or healing for fear of rejection or condemnation. One's self grows from the consequences of being. People's selves stop growing when they repress them.
The problem of hiding and repressing one's true self, feelings and motives goes back to the first man, Adam. When we transgress, we tend to feel guilty, exposed and afraid, so we hide behind a mask fearing we might be condemned and/or rejected if we admit to what we did, we hide to defend our self.
Fearing rejection for our transgressions, failures, negative emotions, and false motives, we hide from other people. Moreover, if we do this long enough, eventually we hide from ourselves until we no longer know who or what we really are. Personal growth then ceases and death as an authentic person begins.
To be fully alive and fully functioning, we need to be very much aware of the masks we hide behind and what wrongdoings we are hiding. Only when we face our reality, that is, our secret transgressions, dark side, and supercharged repressed negative emotions, and confess these, can we ever feel forgiven, free, and become authentic and real.
We are what lives in our hearts and our secrets determine our emotional wellbeing. In addition, it is not the truth that hurts us but letting go of the lies; that is, letting go of the masks and defences we hide behind.
There are numerous ways we hide to avoid facing our dark side and to medicate our pain such as the following: being too busy, becoming a workaholic or even a religious-aholic, or in other addictive behaviours. We use chemical dependency, intellectualism, theological rigidity, legalism, saccharine sweetness, an austere bearing, control of others, being a super-personality, co-dependency, and a score of other ways. Only when we stop acting out in these self-defeating ways and face our inner pain can we ever have a chance of overcoming what we are hiding from. The truth sets people free. Hiding from the truth keeps us in bondage. Furthermore, living in denial can be deadly! It can destroy relationships and take years off one's life. The tragedy is that most of us will do absolutely anything to avoid facing our reality and feeling our pain. However, to heal it we need to feel it, admit it, own it, and bring it to a trusted source and, if needed, to a qualified counsellor for healing and recovery.
Moving forward, Deborah Wollnik, founded HOTHF, and created HOTHF branded products “Le Gilgal with two things in mind:-
To create jobs for the unemployed and to raise funds for Haven of the Heart Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation caring for abused, abandoned, neglected children, feeding the homeless and unemployed. Volunteers go into the field to raffle tickets on a monthly basis to generate an income, earn commission on funds raised, and donors win prizes.
People in the community pull together, and bake cakes etcetera to be sold on fun days along with hot dogs and cold-drinks. All participants are asked to pay an attendance fee as a donation to our worthy cause.
