Introduction
G'Raj Mahal is one of the many trailers that have popped up in Austin over the past few years. However, this one is a bit more special. Not only do they serve wonderful Indian food and have a Tandoori oven in their trailer, they also have a pretty, covered dining space. So, unlike most trailers in town, there is plenty of seating, ceiling fans for when it is hot and outdoor heaters for when it is cold. While it's a bit tucked away in the neighborhood, you can't miss the place because of the large art bikes that dominate the space. This coupled with the breezy white curtains surrounding the dining area, makes for a fun, laid-back atmosphere. It just screams Austin. The food is great.
The korma is exactly what you expect, tasty and delicious. The lamb, though, is cooked to perfection and tasty! Bring your own beer/wine as they are a BYOB establishment. If you come during the dinner rush, be prepared to wait for tables and food. With the amount of customers both eating there and getting food to go, you may have to wait a bit for the food. It is worth it. Of course, like most Indian food, it's a bit pricier than what you would consider paying for trailer food.
G' Raj Mahal Cafe is Austin's first and only Indian food trailer. In the same vicinity as Lustre Pearl and Clive Bar, G' Raj offers Rainey Street bar-hoppers a place to grab a bite, as well as keep the cocktails flowing (BYOB!). Grab a table, browse the menu, and place an order with the waiter. Prices run around $11 an entree but the food is top-notch and you avoid standing in a trailer line. Wonderful addition to the Austin trailer scene! Will it ever let up?! Unlike other Austin trailers, at this spot you grab a seat at a table and a waitress takes your order. Just sit back and relax already!
