Introduction
Massage therapists at Free Bodied get to the root cause of pain and imbalance. The area you experience pain is not the only area of imbalance. In the case of low back pain, most often there is tightness somewhere in the legs or hips. This tightness or shortness causes an achy or “tense†back because the muscles in your back are compensating and working harder against gravity. That’s why, when you get a massage that only works on the area of pain, you don’t experience sustained relief. It might last a week or so, but unless you resolve the root imbalance, your pain will continue to return.
Hear from one of our clients:
"Leah is a fantastic healer. In just a very few sessions, she has isolated and removed key pains that I’d been suffering for quite some time. Her knowledge, empathy, and skills are truly amazing. Leah has also been a great coach to correct behaviors that may have been causing my pain. Highly appreciated and highly recommended." - Rick F, Engineering Manager, 2012

Leah
Massage Therapist
Leah listens to her clients, she learns about them and their history, and she works with them, creating space for their body to heal itself.
She allows her extensive knowledge of the body to help hone in on the root of an issue, and then her intuition guides her hands. She employs numerous massage techniques (including trigger point therapy and structural integration), but she doesn’t follow any set choreography. Each person is profoundly different and should be treated as an individual, not a statistic or just another body.
"Leah is a miracle worker! Going to a new masseuse is usually hit or miss. As an athlete, I’m less interested in pampering and really just want my body to function properly after things go wrong. It was a relief to get right to the business of fixing me up. Instead of a general rubdown that fixes nothing, Leah focused on the parts that were broken and went to work.
After the most intense massage of my life, everything works better and my performance has improved. When a friend talks about an injury, she is always my first recommendation." - Kurt T, 2010

Nancy
Massage Therapist
Nancy started studying Somatics in her undergraduate work even before she knew she wanted to be a Bodyworker. (Somatics is a field in which the body is investigated in the first person, merging physical, mental and spiritual aspects.) Nancy's intense interest in anatomy led her to massage school at Wake Technical Community College in North Carolina. And once she got her hands in people's tissues there was no stopping! She served as a classroom assistant, clinic director and Somatics instructor at Wake Tech until she left for Utah. She spent ten years as a full time Massage Therapist in spa, clinical and private practice settings. In 2010 she earned her graduate degree in Modern Dance, where she again specialized in Somatics research. As if being a Nationally Licensed Massage Therapist were't enough Nancy also went on to earn a Certification in Laban Movement Analysis through the Integrated Movement Studies Program.
"First time at Free Bodied and I thought Nancy did an exceptional job. I explained that I was a runner and she went right to the spots that needed the most work. I felt great the next day and was able to run freer and looser than earlier in the week. I look forward to my next appointment!" - Sean S, 2013
Nancy's style as a Massage Therapist begins with having excellent palpation skills. Palpation is the ability to feel what's under the skin and this makes Nancy able to find the "issue in your tissue". Nancy's experience as a dance athlete gives her a personal sense of how to work with clients who use their bodies intensely. She utilizes Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, and Myofascial techniques to treat the underlying causes of each client's concerns. She integrates Movement Analysis techniques into each client's assessment and self-care recommendations. And when you want a soothing massage Nancy draws on her years as a spa therapist.
