Introduction
Ms. Ruth Mae Finch has helped her clients protect their intellectual property since 1978. She has experience engaged in trademark clearance, counseling, prosecution, enforcement, and litigation. She represents small and large companies. Her firm is located in northern Silver Spring Maryland,, but she represents clients throughout the country. Ms. Finch's practice focuses on the protection, enforcement and defense of all forms of intellectual property rights. She has litigated a number of complex trademark infringement cases.
Ms. Finch has practiced in both Maryland and D.C. since 1978. Originally she served as a prosecutor in Baltimore City, where she was nicknamed "First Degree Finch" by Judge Robert Murphy for her litigation skills. At the same time, her father, Walter G. Finch, taught her intellectual property law. In 1997 she went to work in D.C. for the law firm of Stevens Davis, Miller & Mosher, LLP as their head trademark and copyright litigator. She has a broad litigation practice and has tried cases dealing with trademark and copyright infringement, unemployment, landlord tenant, divorce, collections, and criminal, both as a
prosecutor and as a defense attorney in either state or federal court in Maryland, Pennsylvania, D.C., Virginia, California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey and others. She also has been engaged in the prosecution and litigation of numerous trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, filed numerous copyright applications with the U.S. Copyright Office and she has successfully obtained the transfer of domain names to trademark registrants.
Ms. Finch’s practice covers brand licensing and counseling as well. Among other things, she has developed comprehensive trademark enforcement programs, written numerous cease and desist letters, managed worldwide trademark portfolios, counseled on customs issues and created and helped implement intellectual property guidelines and policies for various types of entities. On the transactional side, she has represented clients on matters involving trademark and copyright licenses, assignments, non-disclosure and non-compete agreements, asset purchase agreements, and domain name transfers.
Over the course of her career, she has secured for her clients numerous trademark and copyright registrations in the U.S. and internationally. Ruth is also a seasoned public speaker and has won many Toastmaster awards.
