As the founder and owner of Feature Wall Furniture, I come from a trade background in fine cabinetmaking. Serving my time in the late 80s in Tropical Far North Queensland Australia making bespoke solid timber furniture for customers from recycled rainforest hardwoods such as silky oak, maple and red cedar. In those days making a single piece of furniture could take weeks and kitchens could take months. We would remove the old paint and nails from every single precious plank before machining it to look at the grain, selecting our boards to glue and press into gables and shelves and assembling using traditional joins like mortice and tennons and dovetailing all drawers. Times and materials have changed but attention to detail, craftsmanship and quality remain timeless.
