Introduction
Welcome! Located in the heart of Covent Garden, Food for Thought first opened its doors to the hungry hordes in July 1974. Ideally situated for a quick bite or pre-theatre dining (only minutes from Covent Garden tube station), we offer simple nourishing bowls of food, freshly and lovingly prepared. Great value for money too! Refusing to be processed, microwaved, deep-frozen or standardised our cooking has evolved over the years to reflect changing tastes: the increasing popularity of Asian, Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern dishes is evident in our daily-changing menu (vegan & glutenfree options available). The wonderful diversity of vegetables, pulses, fresh herbs and spices ensures that a meal without meat need be neither bland nor boring as our many carnivore customers have found to their delighted surprise. Our style is unpretentious and remains unashamedly hand-made - a celebration of variety, spontaneity and individualism.
Whilst the access down a steep flight of stairs to the service counter and the cramped conditions of the basement restaurant may not be to everyone's liking, for others they are part of Food For Thought's quirky charm. For some it's the eccentric appeal of observing the 'organised chaos' of the ground floor kitchen just before opening, queuing at busy times 'for a plate of happiness' or the unexpected pleasures of 'sharing a table with strangers' which brings them back time and again, For others the experience is worth enduring for the sake of 'delicious soul food, hearty portions and very reasonable prices' which they can either eat-in or take-away on the spur of the moment.
We are open seven days a week so drop in for a meal or pick up our cookbook when you're passing. We also cater for parties and working lunches. Don't forget to check out our specials page for seasonal menus and meal deal offers. One way or another we look forward to serving you!
