Introduction
El Coto opened in Durham in May 2008 serving the same delicious tapas as our Newcastle restaurant in similar rustic, intimate surroundings on Hallgarth Street.
Dining is over two floors and there is a bar area to enjoy a drink before and after your meal.
The property was at one point owned by the Durham branch of the National Union of Mineworkers and some time ago traded as the 'and Albertâ? restaurant who had a special oval table reserved for committee meetings. The restaurant was named 'and Albertâ? as the Victoria pub is situated on the opposite side of the street.
Tapas are small portions of food and the idea is to share as few or as many dishes as you fancy. Our tapas are portions of dishes typically found in the gastronomy of Southern Spain and all of our dishes are home-cooked using both ingredients sourced from Spain and locally bought produce.
Our extensive menu has a wide range of hot and cold tapas, salads, cured meats and of course 'paellasâ?; a traditional Spanish rice dish. We also offer a range of tapas selection menus, great for large groups and for the indecisive diners who find it too hard to choose from our large range of dishes!
