Introduction
Sustaining a healthy spine is key to achieving and maintaining good overall health.
Here, at Chiropractor, our goal is to ensure just that, achieving and maintaining good spinal health.
Under the care of Dr Monica Fiandeiro, exceptional care is taken to ensure that patients are well educated about their condition, that the appropriate care and treatment is provided for that condition and, where applicable, patients are educated in their role in their recovery in order to maintain this level of improvement in their quest for good spinal health.
At our clinic, we focus on using a multidisciplinary approach to patient’s needs, when indicated, to ensure that treatment is holistic to allow for every effort in achieving total patient care.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is an alternative and complimentary form of treatment to many of today’s common health issues, some of which will be listed and discussed at a later stage.
The word “Chiropractic’ literally means, ‘done by hand’ and this is the crux of the profession. It is a natural, drug and surgery free method of achieving and maintaining your well being.
How does Chiropractic work?
The spine is made of different segments that each contains a certain amount of vertebrae. The top section has 7 cervical vertebrae; the section below that has 12 thoracic vertebrae; below that is the lumbar section that has 5 lumbar vertebrae; then the sacral section has 5 fused vertebrae and lastly there is the coccyx consisting of 4 rudimentary vertebrae.
Between the cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, there are cartilaginous discs that work as shock absorbers. A pair of spinal nerves also exists between each of these vertebrae. These nerves come off the spinal cord and provide communication between the brain and the organs, tissues and cells of the body in order to influence them to work in the way that allows our bodies to function at its best.
Your Chiropractor’s job is to evaluate whether your spine is moving as it should be. At times there may be vertebral segments in the spine that are fixated or displaced in a certain position or direction, causing tension and irritation on the spinal nerves and other structures, such as the ligaments, tendons and musculature around the spine.
This irritation can affect not only the very area of irritation at the spinal level, but it can also cause an effect on the area that that particular nerve supplies elsewhere in the body.
Once your Chiropractor has identified where the problem lies and whether it can be treated by Chiropractic methods, their task is to correct the dysfunction.
The spine is the foundation to the proper functioning of the body. It can be likened to the foundation of a house. If the foundation to that house is not correct, the house will not be able to withstand the pressure placed on it in terms of its function as a house. The spine is the same in that if the spine is not in good alignment; the body will struggle to function as it was designed to. Luckily, correcting the dysfunctional biomechanics in the spine is a little easier than correcting a badly laid foundation to your house!
