Introduction
DOXA was founded in 1889 in the heart of one of Switzerland's major and most inventive watch making areas, the canton (district) of Neuchatel's Jura Mountains.
Today DOXA brings to the industry a perspective forged over a century of often pioneering watch design.
It all began in 1967, when DOXA decided to add a diver watch to its wristwatch collection.
The idea of manufacturing a diver watch was extraordinary and challenging for one of the most traditional Swiss watch manufacturers, founded in 1889, well known for elegant dress watches made of solid white or yellow gold utilizing very reliable high grade movements.
It was a challenge for DOXA to place a new product intended for professional divers. DOXA therefore decided to set new accents in the diver watch world by adding unique features to their diver watch series.
DOXA teamed up with one of Americas largest sports diver associations to benefit from professional sports diving expertise and combined it with almost one century of Swiss watch making craftsmanship to develop a state of the art diver watch.
The DOXA SUB was finally born in 1967 introducing two revolutionary security concepts: breaking all the rules, the first and very progressive decision was to use a luminous bright orange dial instead of common classic black and white to achieve high readability under extreme dark diving conditions.
The second innovation was the unidirectional rotating bezel integrating the functionality of a no-decompression limit table to the watch. The official US Navy Air dive table for no-decompression dives was engraved (meters) on the bezel to assist divers in taking care of time and water depth during underwater excursion.
The DOXA SUB was also immortalised in popular culture with the cult novels by renowned author Clive Cussler, whose hero Dirk Pitt wears his iconic DOXA SUB on his underwater adventures.
In 2002, DOXA launched the re-issue of the SUB300T, and since then has expanded the re-edition SUB collection, combining the aesthetic of the original DOXA SUB with modern and current dive features. Whether you're a professional diver, an occasional underwater adventurer, or a 'desk diver', we've got you covered.
We're also committed to the environmental causes of the NUMA foundation, Ocean Futures Society and the Project Aware foundation, and in recent years have released several limited edition models in collaboration with these organisations. More information about these foundations is avaialble through our website.
