Growing up in New Delhi, Nitu Singh experienced his first food memories by spending time in the kitchen with his mother as she prepared large meals for his family nightly. Combined with his father's career in the restaurant industry, Nitu used his mother's use of different spices and father's passion for food to follow a path that led him to a career in the restaurant industry as well.

After coming to the United States in 1978, Nitu worked with him father at their family restaurant in New York City, Poonam, where he worked under his father and learned his restaurant skills first-hand. Poonam, now known as Minar, is still located in Midtown Manhattan. The experience Nitu gained from working with his father helped to nurture a business savvy and knowledge of the restaurant industry that was put to use later when he partnered with Suvir Saran to open Devi in 1994. Today, Nitu works in partnership with the staff and chefs to keep the restaurant running smoothly and the diners well-fed and happy.

When not at Devi, Nitu can be found at the movies or dining at one of the many restaurants throughout New York City.
