CAC's nurtures a community where people discover, develop, and express their artistic vision. Founded by Mexican-American artist Octavio Medellin, the art school has deep roots in the community and its goal is to become one of the foremost visual arts education facilities and community arts organizations in North Texas. CAC employs more than 40 instructors who are locally and nationally known professional artists and now offers more than 500 classes and workshops per year to 1,500 students. Course offerings include: art welding, clay sculpture, ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, mosaic, painting, photography, printmaking and stone carving. It organizes local art exhibitions, lectures and events for members and the Dallas community to instill awareness and demonstrate the importance of culture and the arts in our lives. CAC is actively engaged in outreach for at-risk children and teens in the community through programs such as Art as a Second Language Camp MetalHead and unseenamerica. There is also a program for teens and young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities called ArtAbility and CAC hosts figure drawing classes for the visual arts students at Booker T.
