Introduction
Our bed and breakfast styled accommodation was founded in 1991. Since those early and difficult times we have gone on to receive numerous accolades from the press and traveler alike. We are conveniently located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, perfect for both tourists and business travelers: just short blocks from the 79th Street subway stop on a quiet residential street.
Traditionally known as the home to New York City’s affluent cultural and artistic workers, the Upper West Side of Manhattan has come to be known as one of the most upscale neighborhoods in New York City. It is home to some of the more well known museums such as The American Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium, and is also home to cultural centers such as Lincoln Center. Also found in this neighborhood are European style cafes and bistros, friendly diners, fine restaurants, and ample opportunities for shopping. During the summer weekends, the streets are dominated by the ever-popular flea markets, and Central and Riverside Parks are always a popular way to spend afternoons, even during the week.
Our goal is to provide the best of both worlds: that is to say reasonably priced high quality accommodations in a neighborhood that feels more native than tourist, and yet not so far away as to render your stay inconvenient for all that New York City has to offer. Your privacy and peace of mind is assured. Each of our four spacious B&B suites is individually decorated with an inviting combination of antiques and contemporary details: all featuring a queen bed (3 of which offer a sofa bed) with a generously-sized living area, a private galley kitchenette, and bathroom. The ideal fit is the type of individual who is seeking the perfect mix between hotel, vacation rental and bed and breakfast. There is a maximum occupancy of two guests per suite. Please note that we specialize in extended stays of 30 days or more.
Country Inn the City has been voted as one of the best alternatives to a hotel in New York by Frommers on several occasions, and highlighted in other notable publications such as the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, USA Today, Virgin Travel Guides, 50 to 100 best Wonderful Little Hotels in New York, Lonely Planet, Time Out NY, and Louis Vuitton to name a few. We are proud to have been featured on 'Jane's New York' on NBC, a hotel special on New York City, 2005). Our boutique style bed and breakfast is a gay-friendly establishment in that we don't discriminate. Now a 'favorite place' on Google and Trip Advisor.
