Introduction
Clarion Water Services is a water treatment company that specialises in the control of Legionella within hot and cold water systems. Legionella can be found in many different water systems at home, hospitals, care homes, factories and offices to name a few. There are 34 species of Legionella which cause the deadly Legionnaires' disease and the bacteria can be found in a number of environments; stagnate water being the most common.
The first step to reduce the risk of this deadly bacteria is to have a Legionella risk assessment survey on the property meeting the requirements of the HSE’s ACoP L8 to identify the risks the building poses. The finished risk assessment will guide you through the necessary steps to reduce, eliminate and control the risks of Legionella.
UK law dictates that employers and landlords have a legal responsibility to identify potential risk areas. They must put measures in place to control any risk factors and state that all Legionella risk assessments should be carried out every two years. If changes are made to your water system before the two years, then you should review the risk assessment as soon as possible. Furthermore, Employers and Landlords are also required to implement and manage precautions and keep records of the above procedures.
