Cryotherapy refers to cold therapy, which means the exposure of the body to extremely cold temperatures for a few minutes. The theory is that when the body is immersed or part of the body is exposed to very low temperatures for several minutes, the person gets a range of health benefits. Cryotherapy may be administered through ice baths, coolant sprays, ice massages, ice packs, and even probes that are driven into tissue. Treatment Inflammation Management Inflammation comes from an overactive immune system. However, inflammation is one of the most important ways through which the body initiates tissue repair, gets rid of dead cells and eliminates toxins that cause injury. When nerves are not functioning as expected or are damaged, pain messages will be sent to the central nervous system through the nociceptive fibers.
