The temperature of the water heaters temperature is set in relation to its temperature setting. The temperature of hot water temperature is around 20 degrees C and it increases with increased temperature setting. The temperature of room temperature water heating that uses solar energy for the production from room temperatures to a drinking point takes 12 hours at 20 °C ambient temperature. In this case, when ambient air and air within are expanded, the pressure reduces to approximately 1/5 or 1/6 atmospheric pressure. When the ambient air expands still more due to increased temperature in the summertime, then even 10 hours are required for the same increase in drinking temperature. Occasionally water cools down below the temperature setting. In tank water heaters usually hold water at that temperature for a while, while water in water heating tanks continues to expand and cool down; this is why water often becomes cooler than the set temperature. This means it may need to be reheated with an immersion heater or wait until the water is warm enough again. The latter case can be done by adjusting the thermostat of the water heater to a higher temperature to prevent cooling below desired temperatures. A heater with a thermostat that is more responsive to temperature changes will increase the likelihood of water being at an acceptably high temperature when in use. The heater may be used for heating the water in order to heat up faster. However, the heater cannot be set too high, or else it can lead to scalding and possibly burns. The heater should also not be touched while it is still hot after having heated up the water because there is a risk of burn injury. A higher temperature setting on a heater will take longer than a lower one as well as consuming more energy so energy efficiency may decrease.
