Introduction
The MyBabyPrints Starter Kit simplifies the process of getting a clear handprint image from a child without getting handprint images on everything in your house. However, we have found that kids still want to punch the paper, smear their hands across it, grab it and throw it, cry, or just become really shy and not touch it. After all, they are kids.
With that in mind, we’ve gathered up some tips to help get a good, clean, perfect little handprint (like the ones on your car window.)
Children and Infants each present unique “challenges.†We’ll start with children:
1. Handprints don’t have to be “perfect†to be perfect to you. Also, left and right hands don’t have to be next to one another when you stamp them. Our computer algorithm (magic) isolates the hand or foot image, and you can move prints to appear next to one another or in a shape, such as a heart. You may scale them to fit on any of our products.
2. You may want to practice “stamping†before applying the inkless wipe, so that your child understands how to put their hand on the paper.
3. It helps to secure the paper to a sturdy surface such as a clipboard, so that you can bring it to the child.
4. Get a helper! One person can apply the inkless wipe and another can direct the hand-stamping. The treated wipe will not show up on anything but the treated paper. However, if you have touched the wipe, you will want to avoid touching the paper and causing smudges.
5. The front and back of the paper can be used to take a print. Start in a corner, and keep trying until you get a print you are happy with.
6. Children are intrigued by the printing process. Young children may become excited when they see their handprint appear, and they will often swat at or grab the treated paper. You will want to get the print and then move the paper to safety.
7. Kids love to be involved in the design process. They can help to pick out a color, font, and even a gift for Grandma or Grandpa.
And Now Infants:
1. You may want to wait until your infant is asleep to take the print. It is best if they are in a seated position, such as a baby seat, where their hands and feet are accessible. If they are awake, make sure that they are held safely in a seat, highchair, or someone else’s arms.
2. Secure the treated paper on a sturdy surface, like a clipboard, and bring it to the child.
3. Footprints are simpler to get on infants than handprints – simply wipe the foot, bring the treated paper to it, and press lightly for a few seconds. Be careful to lift straight out to avoid smearing.
4. Handprints are adorable, but they are more difficult to obtain from infants because of the grasp reflex. You may be able to reverse the grasp reflex by stroking the side or back of your child’s hand, which should allow time to slip the hand onto the treated paper.
5. Infants have a great advantage over older children – their hands are tiny, so you have plenty of room for goof ups.
6. If all else fails, use what you already have! Simply snap a picture of your child’s foot on their birth certificate, upload to MyBabyPrints.com, and let the baby keep sleeping. You can also take a picture of any birth certificate footprint, including that of an older child.
