Our attention to detail in film presentation and programming has made us a second home to movie fans all over the planet and earned accolades from the likes of Entertainment Weekly (#1 theater in America), Wired.com (Coolest Movie Theater in the World) and Fandango.com (One of the Best Theaters in the Country).

We have zero tolerance for talking or cell phone use of any kind during movies, and we aren't afraid to kick anyone rude enough to start texting their friends during a show right out of the theater. We also hate it when other movie theaters make you watch advertisements after you've already paid to see the movie, so we're vigilant about never letting ads hit our screens - we've even turned down PSAs for great causes because we don't want ANYTHING to disrupt your experience of the show. Instead of ads or mind-numbing content named after the number of minutes you have to sit through it if you get to the theater early, we create custom preshows with content themed to most of the features we program.

We also take the same care with all of our food and drink offerings, and at every Alamo location you can find a strong core of casual dining options to accompany your movie as well as menu specials updated at least every three months. Cold beer and fine wines are on the menu at every location, with an emphasis on highlighting local breweries whenever possible. Select Alamo locations feature a full bar with liquor where we theme specialty cocktails around the movies of the day.

Innovation is at the heart of everything we strive for, so in addition to maintaining the latest and greatest in projection technology so that every show features crisp, bright digital or 35mm presentations with booming surround sound, we also program repertory titles and special events you won't find anywhere else. Enjoy a break from our "no talking" policy by yelling out your favorite lines at one of our Quote-Along events. Pull out your cell phone and openly mock the movie you're watching with texts that show up on the screen at HeckleVision. Or just enjoy slumber party classics like Dirty Dancing or Clueless back up on the big screen in an auditorium filled with like-minded fans at our monthly Girlie Night presentations.

The Alamo Drafthouse was founded in Austin, TX by Tim and Karrie League, who were driven by a simple passion for watching movies and enjoying food and beer. The first theater was a fairly simple one screen operation that initially featured second run titles at discount rates, but the Leagues' passion for programming quickly soared past the standard repertory theater midnight fare and it wasn't long before Austin's cinematic luminaries like Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused) and Harry Knowles (Ain't It Cool News.com) took notice.

Soon what was once a non-descript parking garage that the Leagues transformed into a theater with their own two hands became the hub for every true cinephile in central Texas. Within its first year the venue was playing host to film premieres, visiting filmmakers, and even caught the eye of Quentin Tarantino, who began hosting legendary 5 day marathon screenings of classic exploitation titles from his personal collection.

Over the years, the original Colorado Street location became a laboratory for more innovative programming and events, and the Leagues began opening more theaters throughout Austin, this time as small multiplexes that would play a fresh mix of top Hollywood product and indie fare.

Today the Alamo is expanding and opening both company-owned and franchised locations across the U.S. Currently there are theaters in Houston and San Antonio, as well as one location in Winchester, VA, and plans are underway to open in several markets in the coming years.

Each Alamo Drafthouse location today is still managed with the same loving care to every detail of the experience, and all of the theaters in our network share in nationally produced signature programming and special events that have been inspired by those first experiments with alternative content that the Leagues developed in their original theater on Colorado Street.
