Introduction
Adenylate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) plays a key role in the regulation of cellular energy homeostasis. This kinase is activated by a response to stress factors that deplete the supply of cellular ATP, including hypoglycemia, hypoxia, ischemia, and heat shock. AMPK can be found as a heterotrimeric complex containing a catalytic alpha subunit and regulatory beta and gamma subunits.
